We would like to congratulate the following 2011 European Association of Taiwan Studies (EATS) Young Scholar Award participants:

1)      Jerome Soldani

2)      Tá?a Dluhošová and Sigrid Winkler.

The Young Scholar Award has been made possible through a generous grant by the Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation for International Exchange and has been awarded in 2011 for the first time.

Let us provide you with some background information: we received 17 nominations for the award and the five papers with the most votes were sent to four reviewers. As the results were very close, the EATS Board decided to split the award as outlined below:

First Prize: Jerome Soldani, “Contested Representations of Taiwanese Baseball – Political Interpretations and Moral Values of a National
Sport” - 500 Euro

Joint Second Prize: Tá?a Dluhošová, “Taiwan funü in the Early Post-War Period (1945–1949) Literary Field”
and
Sigrid Winkler “A Question of Sovereignty? The EU’s Policy on Taiwan’s Participation in International Organizations” -  each 250 Euro.
